ST. LOUIS, MO. (KTVI)- The musical score for the 1982 film “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” is coming to St. Louis this weekend with a live concert at Powell Hall. The cinematic score, originally composed by Academy Award-winning conductor John Williams, will be performed by the St. Louis Symphony April 8 through April 10. The music of the orchestra will be synced to follow the movie as it is projected on the screen.

Turning the score to E.T. into a live performance was the idea of Erik Ochsner, a Finnish-American conductor. Ochsner visited the Fox 2 studio this morning to discuss the play and why he chose to bring the show to St. Louis.

“E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” is the fourth concert in the “live-to-projection” concert series started by Ochsner. Earlier this year, he conducted two sold-out shows for Disney’s Frozen in Krakow, Poland. Other movie scores adapted to the symphony by Ochsner include Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Caribbean and Star Trek: Into Darkness.

“E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” is the 1982 movie classic directed by Steven Spielberg and composed by John Williams. The film follows a troubled child who summons the courage to help a friendly alien escape Earth and return to his home-world.

When not traveling with the live-to-projection concerts, Ochsner serves as Music Director and founder of the SONOS Chamber Orchestra. He also serves on the Board of United Palace Theater, a 1929 movie house jewel in NYC`s Washington Heights. In May 2016, he will premiere the SONOS-commissioned ‘Concerto for 2 Pianos and Chamber Orchestra’ by Swedish composer Fredrik Sixten.
